Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 11, 2026

1. Introduction

Graytool ("we," "our," or "the Extension") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how our Chrome extension handles information when you use it.

2. Information We Collect

Graytool does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to external servers.

All data processed by the Extension remains entirely within your local browser environment. We do not:

  • Collect personal information
  • Track your browsing activity
  • Store data on external servers
  • Share any data with third parties
  • Use cookies or tracking technologies

3. Data Storage

The Extension stores configuration data locally in your browser using Chrome's built-in storage API (chrome.storage.local). This data includes:

  • Button configurations and templates you create
  • URL patterns and field mappings
  • Extension preferences and settings

This data never leaves your browser and is only accessible by the Extension itself.

4. Data Processing

Graytool processes log data from Graylog pages solely to:

  • Detect available log fields for button configuration
  • Generate action button URLs based on your templates
  • Display relevant buttons in log rows

All processing occurs locally within your browser. No log data is transmitted externally.

5. Third-Party Services

The Extension allows you to configure links to third-party services and websites. When you click an action button:

  • You are navigated to the URL you configured
  • Any data passed in the URL is sent to that destination
  • We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third-party services

Please review the privacy policies of any services you link to from the Extension.

6. Permissions

Graytool requires the following browser permissions:

  • storage: To save your button configurations locally
  • activeTab: To interact with Graylog pages when the Extension is used
  • host permissions for Graylog: To inject action buttons into Graylog interfaces

These permissions are used solely for the Extension's core functionality.

7. Children's Privacy

Graytool is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.

8. Security

Since all data is stored locally in your browser and never transmitted to external servers, the security of your data depends on the security of your browser and device. We recommend:

  • Keeping your browser and operating system up to date
  • Using strong device passwords
  • Being cautious about the URLs you configure in the Extension

9. Your Rights

You have complete control over your data:

  • Access: You can view your configurations anytime within the Extension
  • Export: Use the export feature to backup your configurations
  • Delete: Remove the Extension to delete all stored data

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of any material changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

11. Open Source

Graytool is open-source software. You can review the complete source code to verify our privacy claims at GitHub.

12. Contact

If you have questions about this Privacy Policy, please open an issue on our GitHub Issues page.
